Makerspace Alterations

  • Project Description:Build on the Rock construction sign
What's a makerspace? To describe them simply, makerspaces are community centers with tools. Makerspaces combine manufacturing equipment, community, and education for the purposes of enabling community members to design, prototype and create manufactured works that wouldn’t be possible to create with the resources available to individuals working alone. These spaces can take the form of loosely-organized individuals sharing space within schools with the purpose of providing access to equipment, community, and education. Each makerspace is unique in exactly how it is arranged to fit the purposes of the community served (source: spaces.makerspace.com). As part of the district's commitment to providing students a STEAM-focused education from Kindergarten through Twelfth grade, Oakdale Elementary, Saluda Trail Middle, and South Pointe High are each having spaces converted into makerspaces.
