• Welcome to the Library Media Center!

    Welcome

    It is not enough to simply teach children to read;

we have to give them something worth reading.

Something that will stretch their imaginations-

something that will help them make sense of their own lives

and encourage them to reach out toward people

whose lives are quite different from their own.

The EPES Library is one of the focal points of the school and provides a stimulating place where students can acquire knowledge and gain insight; an inviting place where children can seek respite from a demanding day; a magical place where they can open books and open their minds for a better tomorrow.

The collection contains over 10,000 books. The library provides opportunities for students and staff to browse the collection and check out books, conduct research, and read for enjoyment in a pleasant environment.   We love hearing from students about what they're reading, as well as their suggestions for new books.

Goals of the School Library Media Program

Cultivating an enthusiasm for reading is vital to the success of our school library media program. This creates the foundation for life-long learning and the development of effective users of ideas, information, and technology. Facilitating student achievement requires effective collaboration between the librarian and classroom teachers. In our technology-driven society, where information is everywhere, the library media program, in cooperation with teachers, endeavors to provide:

    • learning experiences which encourage students and staff to become discriminating users of information through instruction

    • a range of curriculum-based resources in a variety of formats: books, magazines, eBooks and on-line services.

    • leadership and assistance to staff in integrating information technology with classroom curriculum.

    • information technology which enhances communication, presentation and research skills.

    Check-Out Policy

Number of Items: Kindergarten students may check out one book. Students in grades 1-5 may check out two books.  Students may check out an unlimited number of ebooks, but have a five-day checkout time.

Check-Out Time Limit: Students may keep items for two weeks. Students are encouraged to return the items to the library media center as soon as they are finished so they can check out new ones!

Overdue Fines: There are no fines; however, students must return overdue items before new items may be checked out.

Lost Books: Students who lose or damage books beyond repair will be charged the replacement cost of the book.

Making Good Choices: The library media program strives to teach students to be independent readers and to select “just right books.” If you notice your child is bringing home materials at an inappropriate high or low level of difficulty, please discuss this with your child.

    The more that you read,

the more things you will know.

    The more that you learn,

    the more places you'll go.

    ~ Dr. Seuss ~
