Middle School Playing at High School Level

    • A middle school student may play at the high school if a sport is not offered at the middle school and the coaches, principal and athletic directors have agreed that the ability of play of the student is that of the caliber for high school league play.  The middle school student may only play-up within zone of his/her high school attendance area.  It is the parent/guardian’s responsibility to provide transportation to practices.

    • A middle school student may not play at the high school level for a high school team that is zoned outside of his/her high school attendance area.

    • A middle school student may play a sport approved by the High School League at the varsity level, if the ability of play exceeds that of the middle school student athlete.  The coaches, principals, and athletic directors at the middle and high school must agree to the change in level.  The middle school student must tryout at the middle school level first and the coach or athletic director at the middle school will contact the high school about the exceptional athlete.  (Exception: Due to conflicting try-out times, softball may take place at alternative time. The student athlete must contact the middle school AD and Coach to inform of their desire to be considered for the high school varsity softball team. The middle school will then make arrangements with the high school coach for an appropriate time for an evaluation. If the athlete contacts the high school first they will be redirected back to the middle school AD.)  The student may only play within his/her zoned high school attendance area.  It is the parent/guardian’s responsibility to provide transportation to practices.

*High school coaches or assistant coaches may not invite middle school students to conditioning, nor invite them to tryout.
