  • Rock Hill Schools recognizes and appreciates the role of media in providing news and information to our community. It is the role of Marketing and Communications Office to assist in providing information about the school system in a timely and accurate manner. Members of the media are asked to contact the Marketing and Communications Office with requests to interview, photograph, or film employees or students.

    Requests for Employees

ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ employs educators and administrators who are often leaders in the field of K-12 education. If you are interested in interviewing, photographing, or filming an employee, please contact the Marketing and Communications Office. This will allow for a consistent procedure to understand the information that is being requested, your deadline, and allow us to determine who would be the best source for your story.

    Requests for Students

ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ also has a large number of accomplished, award-winning students throughout our educational system. We operate in compliance with the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), which provides parents/guardians/students to opt-out of the release of certain information. The Marketing and Communications Office keeps record of those requests. Therefore, no interviews, photographs, or video with students is permitted without the prior approval of the Director of Marketing and Communications, or his/her designee. Only exception: routine athletics coverage. As a general rule, members of the media may take general footage of students during school events that are open to the public, which includes athletic events.

Requests for the ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ Boardof Trustees

Requests for members of the ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ Board of Trustees can be made directly to the Board member. You will find their information on the Directory portion of the School Board webpage.

    School Board Meetings

Per ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ policy and in accordance with the South Carolina Freedom of Information Act and open meeting laws, media is urged to attend meetings of the School Board. Meeting announcements, agendas, meeting minutes, and other related supporting documents will be available to media on the district’s website. To avoid disruption of the meeting, media are asked to approach/interview Board members, guest speakers, or members of the audience outside of the meeting room.

    Visiting Schools

In accordance with ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ policy, we welcome members of the community to visit our schools. At the same time, procedures must be in place that ensure a safe and secure learning environment for our students and employees that supports learning with as few disruptions as possible. To ensure the time spent in our schools is successful, contact the Marketing and Communications Office to schedule your visit. Please keep in mind that a variety of factors affecting the school schedule (school-wide events, holidays, testing, or similar activities) may prevent a visit on a specific date and/or time.

    Emergency Information

During an emergency, media will not be allowed inside affected school building(s). You are asked to refer any questions/requests to the Marketing and Communications Office. We will work to obtain information from our response team and local authorities on site and respond to you as quickly as possible. Please do not try to circumvent this process by contacting a school directly. School phones are needed to manage the situation and they must remain open.
